Frequently asked questions:

What is a Notice of Appraised Value?

A Notice of Appraised Value tells you if the appraisal district intends to increase the value of your property.   The notice will also include information about your exemptions and tax savings.

The chief appraiser mails you the notice of appraised value by May 15 or as soon thereafter as possible. If you disagree with this value, you have until May 31 or 30 days from the date the notice was mailed (whichever is later) to file a protest with the ARB.

The notice of appraised value explains how and when you can file a protest with the ARB if you disagree with the district’s actions, and will include a protest form.

The Protest form lists the following items that can be protested with the Appraisal District:

  • Value is over market
  • Change in Use of land appraised as Ag-use, Open Space, or Timber land
  • Ag-use, open space, or other special appraisal was denied, modified or cancelled
  • Value is unequal compared with other properties
  • Owner's name is incorrect
  • Property should not be taxed in ______________________ (Name of taxing unit)
  • Property description is incorrect
  • Exemption was denied modified or cancelled
  • Property should not be taxed in the Appraisal District or in one or more taxing units
